HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) — You might have heard about baseball and the “boys of summer,” but Friday evening, as the song goes, “this one is for the girls.”
Along with the Greater Huntington Parks Men’s and Co-Ed Softball Leagues, there’s now an all-women’s recreational league.
Shelby Hill, who’s a player on one of the teams, says “It feels pretty good to have our own ground to compete, that way we’re not having to compare ourselves to other people.”
In the past, these women didn’t have enough players or teams to field this reality. However, times have changed and now there is plenty of interest.
Six teams were at the season opener on Friday and the atmosphere was full of good weather and good competition.
Some might say “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” but for these ladies, it’s a softball diamond.
